Features
The Aran Valley (Val d'Aran in Aranese) occupies the north-western tip of the Catalan Pyrenees, in the province of Lleida. It is the only valley on the north face of the mountain range that belongs to Spain, with Atlantic climate, its own language (Aranese) and a cultural identity distinct from the rest of Catalonia. The valley stretches from the French border to the Bonaigua pass, with Vielha as its capital and Baqueira Beret as the main tourist draw.
Alma de Nieve manages apartments and houses for holiday rental in the Aran Valley. Privately owned properties spread across the villages of the valley and the different zones of Baqueira Beret ski resort. Every accommodation in the Aran Valley is fully equipped and checked before each guest arrival.
The valley offers very different accommodation options depending on the area. We have organised our selection by destination to help you find the right fit for your trip.
The core of our offer: 1 to 3-bedroom apartments. All include equipped kitchen, wifi, heating and bed linen. Depending on the area, apartments may come with parking, ski storage, fireplace, terrace or balcony with views. Apartments for rent in the Aran Valley work for short breaks (weekends, bank holidays) and for longer periods (ski season, full summer).
For larger families or groups, we manage houses across the valley villages: stone-and-slate constructions with gardens, fireplaces, multiple floors and space for 6 to 12 guests. House rental in the Aran Valley is the choice for week-long stays or longer, with full independence.
The Aran Valley receives visitors 12 months a year. In winter, Baqueira Beret opens from November to April. In summer, the valley transforms: hiking in Aigüestortes National Park, circuits to the Colomèrs Cirque, mountain biking from Beret, thermal baths at Les, festivals and village markets. The Falles de Sant Joan (June) and the Fèsta de Hòrt (October) are two of the best-known celebrations.
We offer season rental in the Aran Valley (full ski season or summer) with reduced rates compared to nightly pricing.
Nature. Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park (accessed via the Bonaigua pass), Colomèrs Cirque (a cluster of glacial lakes), Saut deth Pish waterfall, Artiga de Lin, Baricauba forest. A network of signposted hiking trails for all levels.
Heritage. The Aranese Romanesque route brings together over 30 churches and hermitages (11th-13th centuries) spread across the valley villages. Highlights include Sant Andreu de Salardú, Santa María de Arties, Sant Miquèu de Vielha and the church at Bossòst.
Gastronomy. Olla aranesa (mountain stew), grilled meats, wild boar civet, Aranese cheese, Aran Valley caviar. Restaurants in Vielha, Arties (Casa Irene, Parador), Baqueira and other villages throughout the valley.
Access via the N-230 and the Vielha tunnel. Driving distances: Toulouse 277 km (3 h), Barcelona 280 km (3 h 30 min), Zaragoza 263 km (3 h), Madrid 585 km (6 h). Nearest airports: Toulouse-Blagnac (2 h 45 min drive) and Lleida-Alguaire (2 h). High-speed rail (AVE) connection at Lleida with Madrid and Barcelona.
For French travellers, Toulouse is the natural gateway. The A64 motorway leads to Montréjeau, then the N-230 follows the Garonne valley (the river rises in the Aran Valley) through the Vielha tunnel. Access roads are kept clear of snow throughout the ski season.
For British and Northern European visitors, the most practical route is flying into Toulouse-Blagnac and renting a car. Barcelona El Prat is an alternative (3 h 30 min drive) with a wider choice of flights.
