Arties is a stone-and-slate village at 1,143 metres above sea level in the Aran Valley, 7 km from Baqueira Beret. The Montardo peak (2,833 m) frames the skyline. The village preserves two medieval churches (Santa María, Romanesque from the 12th century, and San Juan, Gothic from the 14th), the ruins of Castell d'Arties and the Banhs d'Arties thermal baths. It is one of the most characterful villages in the valley and a peaceful base for skiing at Baqueira without paying resort prices.

Banhs d'Arties

Thermal baths with sulphur waters, 5 minutes on foot from the centre. Pool circuit, sauna and treatments. The perfect complement after a day of skiing or hiking.

Old quarter

The church of Santa María (12th century, Gothic frescoes, Romanesque carving of the Virgen de la Asunción), the church of San Juan (Gothic, now an exhibition space with an octagonal bell tower), the Castell d'Arties ruins with panoramic views, and Casa Portolà next to the Parador.

Nature

From Arties you can access Aigüestortes National Park, the Colomèrs Cirque, the Montgarri Sanctuary and hiking trails along the Valarties river valley. In summer: mountain biking, trail running, fishing and excursions to high-mountain lakes.

Gastronomy

Arties has a food scene that punches above its weight: the Parador, Casa Irene, and several Aranese cuisine restaurants (olla aranesa, wild boar civet, local cheeses).
